It’s always nice to give the kids a little treat on holiday, whether that’s an extra scoop of ice-cream, an afternoon milkshake or a bigger-than-normal helping of pudding at the buffet (once they’ve finished all their veg, of course). And what’s even better is when hotels are one step ahead, with those kid-friendly snacks ready and waiting. From free pick-and-mix to bedside cookies, these hotels are six of our favourites for delivering sweet treats the kids’ll love…
At first glance, the Grand Hotel Tremezzo’s opulent lobby might not seem particularly child-friendly, with its antique-style furniture and Belle Epoque styling. But wander over to the far side and you’ll find an ornate side table topped with sweetie jars. Let little ones pick a few of their favourites while you get check-in sorted – we reckon it gets family holidays off to a flying start.
The Royal Kiko Suites are pretty fabulous already – fun décor, kid-sized robes and slippers, a games console and DVDs (plus two hours’ free babysitting for when mum and dad fancy a spa treatment or quiet dinner together). But add in the children’s minibar and things get even better. Instead of booze, it’s stocked full of kids’ favourites, including tasty milkshakes (which make a great post-plane pick me up).
If you’ve ever wondered what could make an afternoon on a Maldivian beach even better, we’ve got the answer: ice-cream delivered direct to your lounger. Travel Expert Dimitra raves about Velassaru’s ice-cream trike, which makes the rounds twice a day delivering fresh ice-cream and fruity sorbets to sunbathers. We think parents will love it just as much as the kids.
Forget a little chocolate or mint on the pillow – at the Family Concierge Suites here, kids can expect a nightly turndown service of just-baked cookies and ice-cold milk. Just make sure they brush their teeth before bed…
Movie night is pretty special at Lux* Belle Mare. Lounge on squishy beanbags under a star-filled sky, while munching on freshly popped popcorn and ice-cream from ICI, the hotel’s fabulous ice-cream parlour. Not only are the ice-creams fat-free, but they come in tailor-made combinations like bubblegum and cream with crunchy hazelnut. It’s all served up in a made-to-order waffle cone, too.
There’s a lovely welcome when you arrive here, as our PA, Georgina, recently found out. Plates of fresh-baked cakes and sugary doughnuts are on offer to pep you (and the kids) up after the four-hour flight. You can help yourself throughout the holiday, too – ideal if the children need a little something to keep them going between lunch and dinner.
