Shusma Knight has worked for Sovereign for more years than we can count, so she knows an amazing luxury hotel when she sees it. This month, she was lucky enough to visit the LUX* Bodrum Resort & Residences in Turkey. We caught up with her to get the lowdown on the newly opened resort…
Tell us about LUX* Bodrum Resort and Residences.
This luxurious hotel is built into a hill and is situated on a private peninsula overlooking the picturesque Aegean coastline. The intimate resort boasts two restaurants that serve delicious cuisine, plus an infinity pool, as well as a pretty bay with a beach. There is also a beautiful terrace that enjoys lovely sunset views in the evenings.
Are there things to do nearby?
Yes, it only takes around 20 minutes to get to Bodrum town, where you can visit the famous Bodrum Castle and soak up the lively atmosphere of the markets, before strolling through streets lined with trendy restaurants and bars.
There is also a quaint fishing village nearby, or if you would prefer to venture a little further afield you can take a day trip to Lake Tuzla, a meeting point of thousands of migratory birds.
Is it suitable for families?
Definitely! If you’re travelling with children, the Residence villas are the perfect choice – they provide pure luxury with lots of space for the whole family. Some of the villas even come complete with a full kitchen and a private pool! The hotel also offers a babysitting service – perfect if you want to enjoy a well-deserved evening off parent duties.
What is your favourite thing about LUX* Bodrum Resort & Residences?
I love the special touches you get when staying at the resort. The LUX* hotel group are renowned for surprising their guests, so expect pop-up cinemas under the stars, ice-cream carts that are there one day and gone the next, and surprises hiding in bottles across the resort. They even offer phone calls home ‘on the house’ from their bright red British telephone boxes.
